Top 5 Minimalist Cafes in Klang Valley to Clear Your Headspace
Minimalism is a movement that has swept social media like a storm, more so now when Marie Kondo has her own Netflix series teaching you how to de-clutter. But not everyone lives the minimalist lifestyle, which is why we have a list of cafes in the Klang Valley where you can now visit to truly enjoy the simple comfort of a good coffee and the relief that you can feel from a clean, tidy space. Listed in no particular order.
1. RINSE Cafe @ Jalan Damar SD 15/1

RINSE Cafe is both a treat for fans of minimalist decor and coffee connoisseurs alike, as the cafe environment is simple and unobtrusive. Well lit with white walls and functional, unpretentious furnishings and a tastefully selected Medusa-head neon piece that frames on one wall, it’s almost spartan here. Which makes sense, considering how the owner, Mervin, wants you to focus on the coffee instead.
Reasons to visit:
- Exceptional coffee selection. Coffee lovers who want a tailored experience may even have coffees recommended to them based on their palette by the founder/barista.
- Classes are occasionally conducted within cafe premises to teach customers the finer aspects of enjoying coffee and tea.

Operated by the same people who founded the popular Artisan Roastery, Someplace Beautiful is a chic, cute interpretation of the minimalist formula. Located in Sentul’s new trendy D7 Sentul complex, the cafe is housed within the silhouette of a ‘home’ in its own store, where patrons may enjoy their drink and food Little-House-on-The-Prairie style, if the film had been directed by Marie Kondo.
Reasons to visit:
- Adorable house-in-a-cafe concept that charms any cafe goer with its minuscule size and minimal, clean environment.
- This new entrant in D7 Sentul serves tea exclusively, which will definitely appeal to those who enjoy a good Oolong or Lady Grey.

Tucked out of sight in the second-floor of a Taman Desa shop-lot, Wild Sheep Chase takes a little looking before you know where it is. Sporting a super minimalist, almost all-white interior dining space, the establishment has since become a favourite among Instagram foodies that enjoy the minimalist vibe.
Reasons to visit:
- The dessert menu offers a step away from the usual fare seen in other cafes; try the vanilla souffle.
- A predominantly stark-white cafe decor makes for some really fantastic IG photos.

5. The Mechanic Cafe @ Jalan Dataran Cheras 8

Minimalism tends to be associated with a predictably minimal colour palette, and no colours are as minimal as black and white. Perhaps that’s why these are the only two colours you are likely to find at The Mechanic Cafe, where the design motif is centered around grey, black and white with a brilliant use of natural light and modern, elegantly understated furniture.
Reasons to visit:
- A beautifully appointed interior makes for great Instagram pictures, and its quiet ambiance helps relax the mind.
- A dish called Pork Meat-ing, happens to be the cafe’s signature: homemade fried pork balls, served alongside a BBQ sauce glaze, potato chips and a mashed pumpkin side.
