Let’s face it, bubble tea, or boba tea, whichever way you call it, has become an international obsession. From New York to Manila, wherever you go, there is bound to be a shop that caters to your inner boba/bubble tea fanatic. In fact, we don’t think there’s any major city on Earth that hasn’t seen the boba/bubble tea craze. But here in Malaysia, our obsession with little tapioca pearls in milk tea has truly reached a fever pitch as new outlets open almost on a monthly basis. With so many, where do you go for your boba/bubble tea fix? Let us show you then! Listed in no particular order.

1. Chun Yang Tea @ 1Utama

Finally open in 1Utama, Malaysians living in the Klang Valley can now get their very own cup of Taiwan’s Chun Yang Tea without having to fly to Taipei for it. Arguably the most unique creation to come from Chung Yang Tea is their Cheese Machiato Black Tea, which combines the sweetness of a perfectly brewed black tea with the savoury flavours of a cheese foam topping. Their tea is so good in fact, even Jay Chou counts himself as a fan!

Another entrant from the boba/bubble tea capital of the world aka Taipei, Tiger Sugar is a relatively fresh face in the boba/bubble tea scene. But make no mistake, for this store has proven itself to be so popular, patrons are willing to wait upwards of an hour for one cup! Their signature drink? A brown sugar boba milk tea that is served with stripes of brown sugar lining the sides of the cup, making it look like ‘tiger stripes’!

If you’re looking for a more personal touch to your boba/bubble tea experience, then we would definitely recommend paying OneZo a visit. Making both their tapioca pearls and syrups in-house for use in their beverages, there is a perfect balance in terms of mouth-feel with the pearls served here. This is on top of the myriad of other teas served alongside your typical milk teas, giving boba/bubble tea enthusiasts serious variety.

4. Xing Fu Tang @ SS15

A post shared by Parammaries (@parammaries) on

Yet another Taiwanese household name for boba/bubble tea, Xing Fu Tang is most popular for its distinctive method in preparing its pearls. Cooked in a large wok with brown sugar, this infuses each little pearl with a distinctive caramalised flavour that you would otherwise not find in other boba/bubble tea outlets. There’s more chew to it, too! Yum!

Mooooojicha Malaysia has all you need to know in its name. Famed for their boba/bubble milk tea, the pearls served here aren’t your typical black tapioca pearls, but rather crystal white baubles that settle at the bottom of your cup, giving an added layer of visual intrigue. But the unique creations don’t stop there, as Moojicha also serves a beverage called ‘Kao Ne Ne‘, which is meant to be a milk tea beverage topped with torched black sugar!

6. Royaltea @ Multiple Locations

While traditional boba/bubble milk tea is pretty usual fare in most boba/bubble tea outlets, Royaltea eschews from the ordinary by offering signature drinks that contain anything but. Our recommendation is to give their unique Durian Milk series a go, which offers a variety of drink bases to go with a topping of bright yellow durian flavoured foam. You won’t find this anywhere else!

If you’re a boba/bubble tea fan then we don’t need to tell you about The Alley. Hailing from Taiwan, as most popular boba/bubble tea places are, The Alley has garnered a very large fanbase for its brown sugar milk tea. With tea leaves used in their teas handpicked, and syrups prepared in-house, there is a richness to their boba/bubble milk tea that is pretty hard to beat! Maybe that’s why patrons are patient enough to wait for an hour for their cup.

Finally, one boba/bubble tea outlet that isn’t from Taiwan. Instead, Zododo hails from the biggest country in the world, China! Best known for their cheese milk tea, every sip of this beverage will yield a salty, yet rich and creamy taste on the tongue. With pearls tossed into the mix, this beverage is deliciously addictive! Maybe that’s why we see so many people crowding around here for their boba/bubble tea fix!

9. Cojiitii @ The Starling Mall

A post shared by vkeong (@vkeong_) on

Cojiitii is a pretty distinctive name in the boba/bubble tea scene, where the core of their business isn’t in your traditional milk teas with black tapioca pearls. Instead, Cojiitii is most popular for its chocolate and fruit-based drinks, served with a variety of different types of pearls. As an added benefit, everything is made by hand, which ensures that only the best ingredients make the cut!

And last but not least, we have Yumchar Tea Bar. But instead of having me ramble on about what makes this boba/bubble tea so great, I’m going to let my colleagues at World of Buzz do you one better with their super in-depth review of their signature beverages! Obviously lah if they made it on the list, you know that Yumcha deserves a visit.
