Some of the best exports to come out of South Korea include G-Dragon, BTS, Blackpink, and Korean fried chicken. Got some more la, but come on, you can’t argue the special place that we have in our hearts for the now incredibly popular pieces of succulent fried chicken ala-Gangam Style. Becoming quite literally the K-Pop equivalent in fast food, not a month goes by without people sharing about how they found a new, amazing place to enjoy deliciously glazed morsels of fried chicken. But among the sea of Korean fried chicken restaurants, which one holds pride of place? If you’ve been asking that question to yourself, then we have the answers right here! These are our picks for some of the BEST Korean fried chicken restaurants in Klang Valley. Listed in no particular order.

1. Nanda Chicken

Operating two outlets between Mont Kiara and Sri Petaling, Nanda Chicken is a relatively well known name for Korean fried chicken fans in the Klang Valley. Lacking that commercial luster that may put off some diners who want an authentic dining experience, the business is more homely and intimate, as it continues to be privately owned by a couple who specialises completely in Korean fried chicken.

Reasons to visit/tips:

  • Yes, you can have your Korean fried chicken the regular way, but why would you when you can order their signature Snow Cheese Chicken? Aptly named as such given the generous amount of shredded cheese that this is served with, you are advised to cocoon every glazed morsel of fried chicken with the stringy shredded cheese as it melts for a truly guilty indulgence. Or if you’re like us and love cheese, just scrape the molten goodness on its own! We won’t judge.

2. Chi Mac Bistro

If you’ve ever had fried foods, then you’ll know for a fact that nothing goes better with bites of crispy crunchy goodness than a tall pint of chilled beer. Golden amber and cool down the throat, it quenches the sort of thirst that is expected from the likes of anything hot, savoury and packed with flavour. Which, coincidentally, describes Korean fried chicken down to a ‘T’. In that case, Chi Mac Bistro makes a very good case for itself with its pairing of beer and Korean fried chicken.

Reasons to visit/tips:

  • Located in the popular bar district of SohoKL in Mont Kiara, Chi Mac Bistro is most popular once the clock crests beyond the evening hours. Do like we did and be sure to order a tall pint of frothy amber to go with their signature fried chicken, and you’re set for a good time. Or if you’re hankering for a heavier meal, don’t miss out on their cheese buldak either!

3. Chir Chir Chicken Fusion Factory

Chir Chir Chicken Fusion Factory may not be the oldest player in town, but back in Seoul, it counts itself as among the most widespread and well-known names for fried chicken. Given that reputation, it is no wonder why the restaurant chain is starting its game strong in Malaysia by opening up their first local outlet in Pavilion’s new Elite mall extension. Considering the number of patrons who visit on the daily, good food is almost guaranteed.

Reasons to visit/tips:

  • There are a multitude of flavours to pick from when you visit Chir Chir Chicken Fusion Factory, but that’s a given when you visit one of Seoul’s most popular chain of fried chicken restaurants. But if you want something truly special, then you need to try their signature Nest Snow chicken. That’s fried chicken tenders ‘nestled’ under homemade whipped cream, cream sauce, and cheese! Be warned, it’s a lot of food, so bring your friends along!

4. Chicken House

Unpretentious and lacking pizzazz, it may be really easy to overlook Chicken House as being just another unremarkable contender among the overwhelming fleet of Korean fried chicken restaurants. But just like a wolf in sheep’s clothing, the most unsuspecting names tend to offer the most surprises. Often considered to be among some of the best places in KL for Korean-style fried chicken by local food bloggers, don’t just take their word (or ours for that matter) for it, visit them yourself!

Reasons to visit/tips:

  • Authentic Korean fried chicken, and that’s all you need to know when you visit Chicken House. Taking a truly simple, no-frills, unpretentious vibe to their dining experience, eating here is not about Instagrammable pictures. While comfortable, the dining setting isn’t going to set the world on fire, but the fried chicken will! Easily described as succulent, juicy and packed with flavour, one bite of Hot Chili Fried Chicken will give you plenty of reason to be hooked.

5. Outdark

This is yet another outlet based in South Korea that had found its way into Malaysian waters in the past five years. Outdark, located in SS15, is said to rank among some of the best places in the Klang Valley for Korean fried chicken. This is a fact corroborated by foodie blog sleuths (and one of our intrepid writers), who have given nothing short of high praise for the assortment of both traditional Korean fare and of course, their fried chicken.

Reasons to visit/tips:

  • With a specialty in Korean fried chicken, you can’t expect anything short of the best for a restaurant chain that hails from Seoul. You may have your fried chicken as is, but if you have a group of four to share, we highly recommend trying the restaurant’s signature Cheese Kingdom dish. Served on a portable gas stove, you get fried chicken (duh), toppoki, kimchi, rice, and of course, cheese.
